This plan reflects how Race to the Stones is actually raced.
You will develop the ability to hold steady effort over long runnable terrain, manage energy output across the full distance and fuel consistently without relying on guesswork. Strength and durability are built alongside running volume to protect against common overuse issues that appear in long trail ultras.
The taper is deliberate rather than aggressive, ensuring you arrive rested without losing the rhythm required for a race of this length.

Race to the Stones is a 100km ultramarathon that follows the historic Ridgeway trail from Overton Hill to Avebury, winding through open chalk downs, rolling farmland, and ancient landmarks, including Neolithic stone circles. The course is mostly runnable but requires careful pacing, consistent fuelling, and mental endurance over a full day on your feet.
Unlike many UK ultras, Race to the Stones is deceptively fast in sections, which can tempt runners into early overexertion.
